Possible meets.... Helene and Michelle Henderson of HH Mortgage Consultancy
Today’s interview is a bit of a first where we chat to not one, but two people. It’s safe to say that they really do know their industry inside out and know exactly what they are doing. Indeed, their loyal client base has been returning to them for help and advice for 20 years now and they still continue to grow – both as people and as a business. Some might say they work within the financial services sector, but in our eyes, they are a Mother and Daughter dream team, making other people’s dreams come true.
This week, Possible meets.... Helene and Michelle Henderson of HH Mortgage Consultancy.
Can you tell us a bit about your business?
Helene: I started my business on 7th January 2001. I gave up my job, a company car and I took the risk. I have never looked back. Michelle, my daughter, joined the business in April 2019, we are now a family business. Michelle has 19 years’ experience in financial services and spent 3 years with Muir Homes as a Sales Advisor.
We are Independent Mortgage and Protection Advisers and provide a bespoke service to our clients. At the end of the day, it must be what is right for them. Buying a house is a huge step in people’s lives and they rely on us guiding them through the process.
How was 2020 for you professionally and personally?
Helene: 2020 was very challenging as I prefer face to face however, I have adapted the business and have been very busy. I also moved home just before lockdown and then had to work from home which I thought I would never do again.
Michelle: personally and professionally I had a positive year, I sat and passed my final mortgage exam and became qualified as a mortgage adviser. I also bought a flat, which was an immensely proud moment for me. My biggest challenge was home schooling, so it is not all sunshine and rainbows, it has however taught me to a lot more patient!
Tell us about the first time you ever moved out of your family home and rented/bought your first property?
Helene: The first time I bought a property on my own was many years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I loved the fact I owned my own home.
Michelle: I bought my first flat in October 2006 and I remember sitting there the first night thinking “wow, this is my very own place, I am a grown up now ha ha”. Mum used to phone me every morning at first, she must have missed me!
Which parts of Perthshire have you lived in and are there any that you liked the most?
Helene: I have lived all my life in Perthshire and never considered moving out of the area. Perth is very central and easy to travel to major cities. The gateway to the Highlands.
Michelle: I have lived in Perth and St Madoes. St Madoes has a wonderful community spirit, not to mention the best warm welcome, cakes and coffees at The Madoch Centre. I am enjoying being back in Perth, it feels like home.
What’s your favourite room in your home and why?
Helene: I love my sitting room as the sun pours in the window (when there is any) and I can also people watch.
Michelle: I have an open plan living and kitchen area which feels homely, I cannot wait until I am allowed to entertain. In the meantime, it is my workspace, little boys play area and doubles up as a gym on occasion! I even relax from time to time.
In your opinion, what is it that makes a house a home?
Helene: Being able to put your own stamp on it.
Michelle: I feel that the people within the house make it a home.
Why do you think Perthshire is such a popular location for buyers from all over parts of Scotland and the UK?
We feel that Perthshire is such a popular location as it is very central and has good links to other parts of Scotland. We are lucky to have such beautiful places to visit in Perthshire.
If you could have your dream home, anywhere in the world, where would it be and tell us a bit about what it might have in it and look like?
Helene: I feel I have my dream home and I love it. The only other place I would like to have is a place in the sun.
Michelle: My dream home would be somewhere overlooking the mountains. I would have a log fire and my very own home gym.
