Possible meets... Christine Scott of Here4you Childminding
Our guest this week clearly has two passions in life; family and business. In fact, her own business actually arose from a frustration at juggling those two very things. Now, she helps others with their own work/family balance and always with a smile on her face. When all is said and done, any successful business is run by people who actually care about others and in more ways than one, that’s exactly what she does best.
This week, Possible meets……… Christine Scott of Here4you Childminding.
Can you tell us a bit about your business?
I left school and went to college to study childcare. When I left college I worked in private nurseries, then went on to work as supervisor at a local after school club. I worked here for 8+ years and in this time had my own two daughters. Due to our working hours I couldn’t find suitable childcare for our own children so In July of 2014 I decided to be come a registered childminder and started up Here4you childminding.
It was quite a lengthy registration process and we had to make some changes to our home but it it was so worth it. I look after children aged between birth and 12 years old and My day to day care provides children within my care with a planned, appropriate play/care curriculum which meets the needs and interests of the families and children attending.
I could go on forever but keeping it short and sweet...I absolutely love my job and the children I look after. Myself, John and our daughters think of all the children and their families as our extended family.
How has the last year, throughout the COVID-19 situation, been for you professionally and personally?
The last year has been incredibly busy, tiring, hard, but amazing... I guess also emotional. The first week of 2020 lockdown was very worrying. I thought my business would have to close, however after closing for one week, my application to deliver funded childcare in partnership with pkc was approved. I had the absolute pleasure of getting the contract to deliver childcare for 2 local families whom parents were working frontline for the NHS. Although it was really difficult with restrictions, we had a ball. We made the most of the garden, walks and adventures and when memories pop up on my phone of this time last year... it makes me smile.
Tell us about the first time you ever moved out of your family home and rented/bought your first property?
The first property I bought on my own was a beautiful 2 bed flat in Scott street. It looked right along Scott street and South street. I moved in on the 5th of November and watched the south inch fireworks from my bay window.
Which parts of Perthshire have you lived in and are there any that you liked the most?
I grew up in the beautiful village of Meigle. My childhood home was every child’s dream. Fields as far as the eye could see and so much space to play. I even learned to drive... in a field. My teens here had its bad points- the 1.5 mile walk to a bus stop and it’s good points - no neighbours to hear the parties.
I have also lived in the town centre of perth as I mention above which I loved. And lastly Scone where we are now, I love Scone!
What’s your favourite room in your home and why?
The favourite room in our house is my daughters room. The sun shines in here every morning. Their walls are painted with glitter and they have the most gorgeous bespoke bunk beds. We love playing and reading books in here listening to Alexa.
In your opinion, what is it that makes a house a home?
My house is not a show home, I would love a show home and my partner John cringes when I bring another big toy downstairs, but having young children and running a childcare business from home... it’s all about the kids. Our house is home when the toys are everywhere, children’s artwork is on the fridge, the beautiful scent of all my scentsy burners and the walls with photos of our beautiful girls. We love our garden, it’s got the perfect balance for children and entertaining.
Why do you think Perthshire is such a popular location for buyers from all over parts of Scotland and the UK?
Perthshire is beautiful, there is so many places to visit, it’s central and practical for people to live here and commute within or to Scotland’s larger cities.
If you could have your dream home, anywhere in the world, where would it be and tell us a bit about what it might have in it and look like?
Abroad somewhere where the sun is always shining, a pool and play park in the garden and a walk away from the beach. But realistically my dream home would still be in scone, just with an extra few rooms, bigger driveway and garden, I will maybe add underfloor heating to the list. Haha.
